You are a neurodiversity-affirming provider who also offers diagnoses? Isn't that an oxymoron?
Yes, you are (sort of) correct. Part of the neurodiversity paradigm means abandoning the medical diagnostic model. But part of being an affirming provider is recognizing the necessity of working the system that already exists. We can benefit from these even if at times they also harm us.
Diagnostic Assessments
Phoenix offers diagnostic evaluations for a range of mental health conditions, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, PTSD, ADHD, and related concerns.

In addition, Phoenix provides preliminary evaluations for often misdiagnosed and co-occurring conditions such as Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, offering insight into whether a more specialized or formal assessment may be beneficial
These evaluations are conducted through clinical interviews, validated screening measures, and a careful review of history and current functioning.
A diagnostic label can be useful for treatment planning, self-understanding, or accessing services—but Phoenix also recognizes that a label is only one part of the story, and works collaboratively to ensure the evaluation process is both accurate and meaningful.
Non-Diagnostic Accommodations & Sensory Needs Evaluations
Not all evaluations are diagnostic. Phoenix also offers non-diagnostic assessments such as preliminary, nervous system, executive functioning, suicidality, and sensory-focused. These processes can be helpful for identifying patterns, tracking progress over time, and guiding treatment planning.
Neurotype Trait
Evaluations
for ADHDer, Autistic, and Gifted subtypes
The Neurotype Assessment is a clinician-developed, non-diagnostic framework Phoenix created to support clients in exploring ADHD, Autistic, and Gifted traits. It was developed through extensive research on neurodivergence, integration of existing screening tools and clinical frameworks, and refinement through supervised use with clients. While it is not a standardized or validated psychological test, it is a structured clinical process that provides meaningful insight into strengths, challenges, and identity development.
This assessment isn't to diagnose you, but give you peace of mind about what brain type you have and what traits you possess. It's great for those who have non-stereotypical presentations that traditional diagnostic tools miss.

Fulfilling A Need
How It Started
In 2022, Phoenix noticed a trend in zir clients who had been denied a formal Autism diagnosis due to having a non-stereotypical presentation. These clients were commonly also Gifted, ADHD, and had mental health challenges which confused traditional assessors.

Phoenix began assessing clients for the most common traits of these neurotypes and helped clients to better understand themselves and their misdiagnosis.
How Does It Work?
Before getting started, Phoenix will clarify with you what neurotypes you'd like assessed and if you have any co-occurring mental health issues that will impact the assessment. Assessments can take anywhere from five to fourteen sessions, depending on what neurotypes are being assessed and other factors.

During the assessment, Phoenix will describe a variety of traits and trends that are most common for said neurotype. Ze will record your answers, make notations, and behavioral observations. Family interviews are sometimes conducted.
Outside Consultation
From 2023-2024, Phoenix consulted with many neurodivergent experts, received weekly supervision, and read books like the Adult Autism Assessment Guide. While Phoenix developed the assessment, ze was also evaluating over a hundred clients for ADHD and Autistic neurotype traits. Being able to hear so many personal stories, helped to quantify what is "normal" and what is "divergent" for those who are late-identified.
Final Report and Accomodations
For an additional fee, you can have a finalized report created from the assessment. This can be used for your own personal healing journey, with other professionals, and to try to gain accommodations at school or work.

Phoenix can also provide you with documentation for the accommodations request using the assessment information. Phoenix will help walk you through the process, so you can get the support you need.
